John is currently serving as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Traditional Building Skills Institute (TBSI). TBSI is a non-profit organization that offers a variety of hands-on intensive preservation trades training workshops throughout the year.
John is also on the Board of Trustees of the Utah Heritage Foundation (UHF). UHF is Utah's state wide non-profit preservation organization whose mission is to preserve, protect and promote the historic built environment through public awareness, advocacy and active preservation. He has served as the Treasurer of the organization, Chairman of the Finance Committee, and has served on the Executive Committee.
John is currently serving on the national ASTM committee that is responsible for developing a new standard for historic masonry mortars in the United States.
